The French Broad River, older than the Blue Ridge Mountains from which it flows, is alive and abundant with wildlife, water fowl, and is surrounded by lovely native flora & fauna. The current slows to 3 to 4 knots as it enters a beautiful mountain valley. Here you can feel the peace and beauty that the Cherokee Indians so appreciated as they followed the Eastatoe Trail (great story), along the French Broad River. As you canoe along the river you can discover the blue heron, beaver, mink, muskrat, fox, deer, and occasional bear that make their homes in the twists and turns of the 'Long Man', so named by the Cherokee.
